Julian Sands has been confirmed dead following months of search after the actor went missing in January while hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains outside of Los Angeles. He was 65.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner Department confirmed the news via press release on Tuesday.

On Saturday, it was reported that an unidentified body was found in the vicinity of Mount Baldy and was sent to forensics for examination.

"On Saturday, June 24, 2023, at about 10 a.m., civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after they discovered human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness. Fontana Station deputies, along with the Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Operations Division, responded to the scene," the department said in a statement.

The coroner subsequently "positively identified [the remains] as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood. The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.

"We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands."

The late actor’s family hasn’t responded to the findings yet.

Sands kicked off his acting career in the 1980s and gained substantial traction after starring in the 1984 Oscar-winning film The Killing Fields alongside Sam Waterston and John Malkovich.

He then went on to star in over 150 films throughout his prolific career, which includes the 1989 horror film Warlock, the 1990 horror-comedy Arachnophobia, and Oscar-winning 1995 movie Leaving Las Vegas among others.

The late actor was born in Yorkshire, England, and moved to London to study at the Central School of Speech and Drama, eventually moving to Los Angeles for the rest of his time.

Sands is survived by his journalist wife Evgenia Citkowitz and their two daughters. He also has an adult son with his previous wife.
