Small plane crashes in Maryland, pilot rushed to the hospital

A foker jet collapsed into a creek in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, on Monday morning. 

The pilot therefore survived and was rescued. Rescue personnel were dispatched as soon as the incident took place. 

The initial police investigation revealed that moments after the plane took off  from Lee airport the engine sputtered.

People in the area reported they heard the small plane sputter before it fell into the creeks. 

The pilot, identified as Steve Couchman, 71, of Frederick, Maryland, was the only person on the plane. He was taken to the hospital with not life-threatening injuries by first responders, the Maryland State Police said.

Couchman was flying a Piper Cherokee single engine plane, according to police.

A witness said the plane got lower before it crashed into the ice. She said that several people in kayaks came to help the pilot.
