If the first official teaser video for the eagerly awaited Barbie movie is any indication, life in plastic is truly wonderful.
The 75-second teaser, which Warner Bros. unveiled on Friday, provides fans with a glorious first look at Margot Robbie as the famed doll who revolutionised children's toys.
An earthy rendition of 2001: A Space Odyssey opens the live-action, Greta Gerwig-directed film's teaser. Little girls and their baby dolls are playing calmly in the desert. A narrator describes: "Since the beginning of time since the first little girl ever existed, there have been dolls. But the dolls were always and forever baby dolls. Until …"
The girls turn on their out-of-date dolls as a gigantic Barbie rises in the background wearing the striped swimsuit initially shown when Mattel introduced the toy in 1959.
The video then cuts to brief glimpses of Barbie's neon-pink fantasy world before ending with a carefully prepared dance routine.
Ryan Gosling, a blonde, makes a cameo as Ken, Barbie's toned, synthetic lover.
The movie's script was co-written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and America Ferrera are among the cast members.
Barbie will hit the theaters on July 21, 2023.
