Aaron Carter had a turbulent connection with some of his siblings, including Nick Carter, before the singer's death on November 5.
The three-year-apart brothers toured together for many years in the '90s and early '00s, with Aaron frequently performing as the Backstreet Boys' opening act.
Although Aaron did not attend his older sibling's wedding to Lauren Kitt in April 2014, the family continued to gather together for special occasions and to support one another online.
But Nick and Angel Carter's sister requested a restraining order against Aaron in September 2019, and it was approved two months later.
The 42-year-old member of the Backstreet Boys said Aaron had admitted to "harbouring intentions" of murdering Nick's pregnant wife and their unborn child.
"After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaron today," Nick tweeted at the time.
The tweet continued: "In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior … we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family."
"We love our brother and truly hope he gets the proper treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else," Nick concluded.
Aaron was required to stay at least 100 feet away from Nick, Kitt, their children, other family members, and their Las Vegas home under the terms of the one-year restraining order.
