Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust

The ill-fated western movie Rust which shut down production last year after the on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins will resume production in January 2023.

The news comes after the Hutchins family filed a suit in February against Alec Baldwin, who shot the prop gun that accidentally killed her, and the film’s producers over her wrongful death.

Since then, the suit has been settled and production for the movie will continue in the beginning of next year.

In a statement on Wednesday, Halyna’s husband Matthew Hutchins wrote: "We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of ‘Rust,’ including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed."

Matthew will now be executive producer on the film and the original cast will return.

Furthermore Baldwin took to his own Instagram account and wrote: "We are pleased to announce today the settlement of the civil case filed on behalf of the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Throughout this difficult process everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation."
