The Little Mermaid’s live action remake: Everything to know

Disney’s classic The Little Mermaid’s live action remake is all set to hit the screens in the next year and here is everything the fans must know.

The Little Mermaid revolves around the same plot as the 1989’s original film, narrating the story of a mermaid and the youngest daughter of King Triton, Ariel, who falls for a human Prince named Eric, while saving him from drowning.

The story faces twists and turns as tensions arise in the underwater world while she tries to go after her love.

According to The Handbook, the first teaser of the classic remake dropped recently, garnering million of views online. It also grabbed attention of young mothers who shared videos of their children’s reaction to the trailer and the casting of the film.

The movie stars the renowned singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, marking the first time for a black actress to play the role. 

The internet soon sparked up with racist comments against Bailey to which the singer-turned-actress calmly responded through a YouTube video.

“Even still today with all of the commentary and people’s opinions going on, it just reminds me to be number one: grounded, and grateful that I have this opportunity” she said.

The film contains the star-studded cast including Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, David Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Jonah Hauer-King and Noma Dumezweni.

The Little Mermaid is scheduled to release in May 2023.
